Easy Homemade Naan Bread Recipe – Soft and Fluffy

Ingredients for Home made Naan: 

  • 1 tbsp yeast
  • 2 tbsp of sugar
  • Warm water ( to activate the yeast)
  • 2 cups all- purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ghee ( or substitute with butter or oil)
  • 2 tbsp of yogurt 
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder 
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Water as needed
  • 1 tsp of olive oil ( for coating the dough)
sugar can be replaced with honey, and yogurt with warm milk + vinegar, ghee with butter.

                          Rolling pin and silicone mat  

Tongs and flat skillet

How to Make Soft Naan Bread

  1. Mix yeast, sugar, and warm water in a bowl. Let it rest for 5–10 minutes until bubbly.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, yogurt, and ghee. 
  3. Add the yeast mixture and water gradually. 
  4. Knead until the dough is soft and slightly sticky.
  5. Coat with olive oil, cover, and let it rise for 15–20 minutes.
  6. Divide into 8–10 balls. Roll each one to 1.5 mm thickness, oval or triangular.
  7. Heat the skillet until very hot. Place naan, cook until bubbles form, flip with tongs, and cook the other side until golden.
